Saturday May 14, Michael and I went up the Tremper Mountain Fire Tower.  The day was very muggy, and that slowed me down some on the way up.  Overall, it was a forest road the whole way up once you reached the register.  Down low the trees were fully leafed out, but near the top you started to see the trees not fully out, which gave some lovely views to the neighboring mountains on the trail.  As I said, it was an old forest road which meant that it was extremely rocky for most of the trail, and on top of that, it wasn't solid rock, there were a lot of them that shifted beneath my feet, mostly on the way down, and mot just the small ones you expect to shift.  That was a little annoying, but such are the trails.  At the top there is a lean-to and latrine in addition to the fire tower.  Unlike the ones I've done in the Catskills already, (Balsam Lake, Red Hill, and Overlook) there was no picnic area or similar on top.  It was just a treed in peak with a tower on it.  The views from the tower were obviously good, but the observation deck was locked up. (per Michael as I didn't go up the tower).

Stopping at the spring on the way down to refill the water bladders was nice.  Sadly the pipe that the spring was supposed to come out of didn't have water coming out of it.  There were some small pools of water there though which we could pump from.  Also sadly, there wasn't much wildlife on the trail.  Not unexpected as we passed probably 20 -30 people on our hike, so it is a popular trail.  All we saw were a few chipmunks and a squirrel, and heard all kinds of birds.  There was only one slightly questionable part of the hike and that was just outside of the parking lot.  One of the bridges had 1 of the 2 stringers broken.
