Sherrill and North Dome Saturday..... It was a beautiful day for hiking, and overall the herd path was rather good, with 2 exceptions. Due to the work they are doing on the power lines, the point where the herd path leaves the woods road is rather hard to find since they beat back a lot of the vegetation that was at the start. I ended up going left of the herd path, started up a different woods road and realized I was on the wrong side of the stream.... back tracked a bit until I saw the path on the other side, and crossed. The proper path is about dead center between the 2 telephone poles when you first come to the power lines.
The other point I had trouble finding the path was when you go from following the valley to following the ridge on the way up Sherrill. That 0.2 miles or so had hints of a path at the top and the bottom, but the middle 500 or so feet it just disappeared in the rocks.
Apart from those couple things, the trail was in really good shape. A couple small muddy spots, one long muddy spot between the peaks, but overall better than some of the other trails I've hiked in the Catskills. I even got to see some of my favorite parasitic plant.... Ghost Pipes!
This marks peaks 11 and 12 out of the 33 3500 peaks... so 21 more to go, plus the 4 winter repeats.
