So, this weekend looks like it is going to be pretty free for hiking. Saturday looks to be iffy weather in the form of light rain, and Sunday looks to be good weather. So, my plans are to do a few hikes this weekend to add to the 35er count. So, I'm going to start with some of the bushwack trails. First up will be Bearpen and Vly. These 2 are not really much of a bushwack from what I've read. Going in from the south, the herd path to Vly is following the state park border. Bearpen is turning the other way and following snowmobile trails. This is basically a road hike. After I do those 2, I'll head over to Halcott and do what is a proper bushwack up that mountain. Overall, it's supposed to be reasonable to see most of the path, add in GPS and I'll get to the canister eventually. Only concern with that one is the nettles along the trail.... so long pants. Overall, this will be about 6 or 7 miles total.
Sunday, I'll probably be able to get Michael to join me and we'll do another set of peaks, this time trailed. Right now it'll be Thomas Cole, Black Dome, Blackhead loop that will be 7.2 miles. If I can get all 6 of those peaks done this weekend, that will leave me 24 peaks to go.... with my current planning, that's 7 or 8 more hikes.... of course I could find that I start what will be my last hike, the Catskill 9 (23 miles, 6000 foot elevation, 9 peaks, 4 of which are bushwhack), and decide that it really should be 4 hikes instead.
