I continue my work on the Lake George 12.  This time it was Buck, Erebus, and Sleeping Beauty out of the Fort Anne area.  First up was Buck from Shelving Rock Road.  The hike was just a dream.  There was a bit of steep right at the top, but I was up in no time and didn't realize how fast I was going.  The views were amazing too!  No wonder this is one of the hikes that "everyone" does, and I'm surprised it took me so long to get to it as it's only about an hour away.

I then hiked back down and instead of driving to Darcy Clearing, I just hike the road trying to get some miles in, then hiked over to Erebus.  I knew this was a "bushwack" mountain, but it's trailed for all but the last little bit.  Well, the trail is perpetual mud and goes by swamp.  I got to Erebus and considered not climbing the bushwack portion, but did anyways.  Not a clear herd path, but someone had flagged a possible path. I mostly followed it and eventually was rewarded with a view of a rock at the top.  I came down a slightly different way but made it back to the trail in one piece.

Then it was off to Sleeping Beauty.  I could have backtracked, but instead I kept going the way I was and went around Erebus so I could see more of this part of the park.  Well, this trail is not well maintained, and when I turned right at the lake, the old bridal path was full of downed trees.  I eventually got to good trail again and made it to the base of Sleeping Beauty, and then up it.  The views on top were well worth it.  Then it was back down, going the way most people took up/down, and hike the long road back to the car, cursing myself for not trying to drive down the road.

This make 5/12 for the Lake George 12 done.
