Today, I took a jaunt over to Baxter. This is not a big mountain, but it does have some wonderful views at the ledges near the top. Started off on 9N and followed the trail to the top. Overall the trail was in pretty good shape, and the snow was all gone. Once up top it was a question of do I go over and come back around, or just go back down and do another peak. I went on, and this was a mistake. Going down the north side was a little trecherous because it's obviously not traveled much, and the trail was covered in last falls leaves making things a little slippery. Then, when I got down, the trail disappeared, and was no longer marked. I followed what looked like an old road, and made it out to Bede road without much more difficulty. Then it was up the road to Bede farm and follow the other trail up about 3/4 of the way, before coming back down. This trail was a little muddy, and also obviously not as well used as the first one I was on. Overall, it was a fun little hike, and I think I found a possible place to view the upcoming eclipse from.
This makes 5/9 for the 9er.
