Today I went up to ADK Loj to hike Cliff and Redfield.  My body told me that it wasn't a good idea.  Well, it was a few things that lead up to it.  First, and probably biggest factor, was the drive up.  It had snowed overnight, and I went out to the car with about 5 or 6 inches on the ground.  This by itself was not bad.  The roads though were worse than I expected.  It took me a bit over 3 hours to get to Loj when it normally takes 2.5 hours.  The roads were sloppy the whole way, and there were a couple times I slipped, but nothing too bad.  It was a bit stressful to say the least.  I arrived 45 minutes after my desired arrival time.

I did start the hike though.  I got about 1/2 mile in and I could feel my chest tightening up.  By the time I was about 1.5 miles in I came to realize it wasn't clearing up.  I was making a reasonable pace, but I was struggling.  So, I went to Marcy Dam, 2.2 miles in, and told the group I was with it wasn't in the cards for today.  I then turned around and went back to the car.  Thankfully the roads on the way out were better than they were on the way in, yet I passed someone that had an accident and the police were just arriving to a rollover.

So, what's happening with me?  I am not sure.  Chest is still tight after showering so I think I may be getting sick.  I see my doctor on Monday, so we'll discuss this.  I am pretty sure it was just stress building up though.

In the end, 4.5 miles in just over 2 hours.  Year to date, 337 miles over 229 hours with 16.4 miles of elevation.
